DESCRIPTION:

 

The RM100DX  100kW Traction Motor Drive is designed especially for Electric (EV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Traction applications.  Emphasis has been placed on reducing the size, weight, and cost, while achieving superior thermal management and long term reliability in on-road and off-road vehicle applications.  The RM100DX is a fully functional regenerative drive intended for operation off a Battery or Ultra-Capacitor bank and can operate in concert with a high-level vehicle controller.  The drive accepts varying DC voltage from the energy storage system and converts it to a variable voltage, variable frequency AC output to control the speed / torque operating point of the traction motor.  The RM100DX family can be configured to operate AC Induction (asynchronous) motors and AC Permanent Magnet (synchronous) motors in either sensored or sensorless modes.

 

The RM100DX comes standard with dual CAN ports, which can be configured as dual redundant control ports, or as separate high speed control and low speed diagnostic connections.  The drive can accept speed or torque commands over the CAN interface, or can be connected directly to a variety of Throttle Position Sensors to respond directly to driver command inputs.

 

Motor and Drive thermal overload protection, battery State of Charge (SOC) limits, over current, over voltage, and over load protection are all provided internally.  Multiple RM100DX drives can operate on multiple wheels in the same vehicle, with coordinated control of wheel slip and wheel speed to improve cornering, launch control, and inclement weather traction control.

 

Advanced CoolBaseTM thermal management technology (patents pending) reduces the physical size of the inverter power electronics and improves the life of the power devices by significantly reducing device operating temperatures.  In many applications, the ICE coolant loop can be used to cool the drive, potentially eliminating secondary fluid management systems and reducing vehicle cost and complexity.
